Gio Ponti decides it's time to give Luigi Fontana's line of prestige home furnishings a boost and invites Pietro Chiesa to join him as artistic director. Chiesa is a distinguished master glazier who calls upon the artisans of his own workshop to join him. This led to the launch of FontanaArte, a new division whose mission is to develop products with a more artisanal character, ranging from stained glass to limited series of furniture and lighting accessories. Over the years, Pietro Chiesa has played a key role in the company. His creative verve proves that he is a versatile master with great cultural and technical expertise. He designed more than a thousand different pieces, some of which go down in design history and are still produced today, including the Fontana table in curved glass from 1932, the Cartoccio vase and the Luminator floor lamp from 1933.
