Many patents have been recognized over the years for the technological, mechanical and optoelectronic innovations made (10 filed in 2016 alone). Artemide has contributed to the history of international design with luminaires such as Eclisse (1967, Vico Magistretti), Tolomeo (1989, Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina), Pipe (2004, Herzog & De Meuron) and IN-EI Collection (2014, Issey Miyake), all of which were awarded the "Compasso d'Oro" prize. In 1994 Artemide received the "Compasso d'Oro for its career" award, the prestigious European Design Award in 1997 and the Leonardo Qualità Italia 2012 Award in 2013. Artemide lamps are considered internationally as icons of contemporary design: they are presented in most modern art museums and design collections in the world.
History
Founded in 1960 by Ernesto Gismondi, Chairman, the Artemide Group is based in Pregnana Milanese. It operates through 24 controlled companies and boasts a distribution network of 55 single-brand showrooms in the world's most important cities. Artemide products are distributed in 98 different countries. With 5 production units in Italy, France, Hungary and Canada, 2 glass factories and a Research & Development structure supported by state-of-the-art prototyping and testing laboratories, the Group currently employs more than 750 people, 60 of whom are involved in R&D activities, confirming the important role of innovation as a key component for the Group's success. Technological research, dialogue with great architects, but also investigation in the social and cultural field are, from the very beginning of Artemide's history, at the base of innovative projects able to illuminate the future with the same strength, even over time.
Today the Artemide collections represent a unique crossroads of values: the human and responsible approach to light is combined with conceptual and material know-how, in a meeting between the latest technology and ancient knowledge, the perfect expression of sustainable design.
